Singing is Easy

Well, the concept of singing is easy.

I can describe how to sing well in about one sentence, but putting the techniques into practice can sometimes take a long time.

I spoke with a fellow singer yesterday about his "vocal journey" and his past teachers. We both agreed that there are lots of different perspectives on singing technique.

You will rarely find two teachers that agree on every aspect of singing technique, so let me answer some questions about my teaching skillz!

Question: How is your singing technique different than others?

Answer: My teaching style is based on Voice Building, which means that you will learn specific warm-ups to strengthen and isolate different singing muscles. Voice Building takes some of the "subjective" aspects of singing away and allows the student to understand the voice more clearly.

Question: Do you teach how to sing high notes?

Answer: Yes! The most significant benefit of Voice Building is expanding your singing range. You'll be able to sing higher and lower.

Question: I can't sing the way I want; why do I have vocal issues?

Answer: Some symptoms of vocal issues are Off-Pitch Singing, Uneven Vibrato (wobble or tremolo), unclear and distorted vowels, breathiness of tone, tightness of the throat, and more. Because those symptoms are directly related to the coordination of the singing registers, they can be easily defined and fixed. Be patient, though! The "healing" of vocal symptoms can take time.

Question: If I have a singing teacher that doesn't teach this way, will I still learn to unlock my voice?

Answer: It all depends. Some singers find their way no matter what, but others could get lost. I was a singing student that did not learn this technique until about 20 years into my journey. I was able to sing professionally in New York because I had a "pleasant" tone, was musical, and loved singing. But, I persisted and didn't stop searching until I found this singing technique. And now, it is my absolute pleasure to teach this Voice Building technique that "unlocks the voice!"
